A Leading Voice in Contemporary Indian Watercolor Art
Amit Kapoor is one of India’s most celebrated contemporary watercolor artists, known for his atmospheric urban landscapes and emotive brushwork. Born in New Delhi in 1975, he studied at the College of Art, Delhi, and went on to earn a Master’s in Painting. Today, he is the Founder of the Watercolour Society of India and the President of International Watercolor Society India.
His art captures fleeting moments—crowded markets, railway platforms, quiet city corners—painted in vibrant yet delicate layers. Favoring a loose, impressionistic style, Kapoor often stops his work at 70% completion to preserve spontaneity. His use of blues, ochres, and greys gives his paintings a distinct mood and luminosity.
Kapoor’s work has been exhibited in 27+ countries, and he has received global recognition including the Silver Star Award from the National Watercolor Society (USA)—a rare honor for an Indian artist. He's also a brand ambassador for Mijello, Escoda, and Lanaquarelle.
A true ambassador for watercolor art, Amit Kapoor continues to inspire artists worldwide through his workshops, leadership, and timeless paintings that speak through light, form, and emotion.
